The last month has been extremely busy as we had ten meetings in September. During that time we were thrilled to have two new churches take us on for support. An individual in another church also expressed a desire to financially partner with us on a monthly basis. We give God glory that each financial partnership moves us closer to being able to leave for Paraguay. I John 5:14-15 tells us that “this is the confidence that we have in HIM, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” This last month we were reminded that it is God that controls who partners with us and that our confidence MUST be in HIM, not ourselves. He will supply each need! Thank you to each person who gives in obedience to the Lord on our behalf. Our written thank you seems so minute, but we trust that the Lord will reward you abundantly.
During our time in Temple, Texas, we were able to partner with a church in their Saturday outreach for two weeks. It was a blessing for Kari to be able to speak with two different Spanish speaking individuals about their need for a Savior. Please pray for the salvation of Maria and Jose as the seed of the Gospel was planted. It was also a joy for Kari to share the Gospel with a young lady named Anita and see her place her faith and trust in Jesus Christ to save her from her sins. Please pray for Anita and Robert (her brother who was also saved) that they might be discipled and grow as new believers.
Because of two meetings in the Dallas area, our family was able to spend time with some of Kari’s aunts, uncles and cousin who live in the area. Our fellowship with them was sweet. We were thankful for the opportunity, especially since we might not see them again before leaving the U.S. It has been an added blessing during deputation to see friends and family that we otherwise do not get to see regularly. Kari was also able to reconnect with a teacher from high school that has become a dear friend. They had not seen each other in almost ten years. While in Fort Worth, we enjoyed a fun family day by going to a rodeo.
For the next four weeks, we are in the Houston area. During this time we will be in two back-to-back missions conferences. It is also an opportunity to see Jim’s aunt, uncle, and cousins who live in the area.
Kari’s mom has drastically declined over the last two to three weeks due to her ALS. As a result, Kari will be flying to Pensacola on Monday for six days to be with her. We are thankful that the Lord provided a flight using Skymiles for a time that will not affect any meetings. Please pray that God’s will is done in the life of Kari’s parents. And please pray for Jim as he remains in Houston with all three children.
Thank you again for your prayers on our behalf! -Jim and Kari Showers
